Lord Vishnu / Water Deity (Jal Devta)

Udak Shanti

1-2 Hours

Importance

Udak Shanti is a sacred Hindu purification ceremony performed to purify the home and family through the power of holy water (Jal). This ritual removes Vastu defects related to water, eliminates negative energies, and brings peace, prosperity, and harmony to the household.

At Ramkund on the Godavari River in Panchavati, Nashik, Udak Shanti is performed with the most sacred water — the Godavari — amplifying the purification power manifold.

What is Udak Shanti?

Udak Shanti literally means "Water Peace." It is a ritual that invokes the blessings of the Water Deity (Jal Devta) to purify every drop of water used in the home and remove all water-related Vastu defects and negative energies.

When is Udak Shanti Required?

  • New Home: Before moving into a new house to purify the space
  • After Renovation: When water pipes, tanks, or plumbing are changed
  • Water Problems: When there are persistent water-related issues (leaks, contamination, scarcity)
  • Health Issues: When family members suffer from water-borne diseases or unexplained illnesses
  • Vastu Defects: When the home has Vastu dosh related to water placement (kitchen, bathroom, water tank)
  • Negative Energies: When the home feels heavy, depressing, or has persistent conflicts
  • Annual Purification: As a yearly ritual to maintain positive energies

Udak Shanti Procedure

  1. Ganesh Puja: Prayers to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles from the ceremony.
  2. Kalash Sthapana: A copper pot (Kalash) is filled with Gangajal, topped with mango leaves and coconut, and placed in the puja area. This represents the presence of all holy rivers.
  3. Jal Abhishek: Holy water is poured over the Kalash while chanting Vedic mantras for water purification.
  4. Vedic Mantras: Specific mantras from the Rigveda and Atharvaveda are chanted to invoke Jal Devta's blessings.
  5. Home Purification: The purified water is sprinkled throughout the home to remove negative energies and purify every corner.
  6. Prasad Distribution: Sacred food (Prasad) is distributed to all attendees.
  7. Shanti Path: Final prayers for peace and blessings for the family.
